How I Work
Gestalt is a therapy of awareness and personal choice. Whilst dialogue is central to our therapy sometimes we might work with your body process and include exercises in breathing, walking, and grounding. This can often help raise awareness and give you, as the client, increased self-support as well as more choice around your difficulties.
I do not expect you to trust me right away, trust often takes time, sometimes a long time. It is not my style to hustle or push you into areas beyond your self support. The relationship that we will develop together is of the utmost importance to myself and therefore I strive to build this on a base of mutual respect and openness. I am very committed to working with you as my client.
During your time with me as a client I undertake to give you my best attention, to consult you frequently about your experience of the process and to look to your best interests, not to exploit you in any way and to use for your benefit the skills and knowledge that I possess. Because I do not view therapy as a way of life, I generally like to work for an agreed number of sessions followed by a review session. This affords you the opportunity to consider if you are getting what you want from the investment you are making in therapy. In the review we will explore together what is helping you, what is not helping you and discuss future issues.
It depends on what you as a client bring as to the length of therapy and this is something that we would discuss on your initial assessment.
I also offer 'walk and talk', which I do locally to where I live in north Shropshire. Find out more about 'walk and talk' therapy here.
